According to Health Canada, 1/3 of carbon monoxide poisoning events are due to generators . There are also many dangers due to faulty or improper connections to the household electrical system. Downed powerlines are of course a danger, but the danger is more than just the live wire, the electrical charge extends to the ground.

The Forbes Hall Health Services Group has arranged to have Tom Nezil come over to give a talk on electrical safety for homeowners. This talk is part of a program sponsored by BC Hydro. Tom does an annual presentation to local firefighters (including TIVFD).
Tom Nezil is a retired BC Hydro power line tech/lineman (worked frequently on Thetis Island) and will focus on the safety issues around power outages from the range of dangers surrounding lines down to safe operation of emergency generators.
