I would like to bring some good news to the people of Thetis Island to remind them of some of things I have done for the benefit of the islanders.
In the spring the CVRD and myself awarded a bursary to a graduating Thetis Island student going on to further higher education in the amount of $500. The bursary is called the Thetis Island CVRD Community Bursary not to be confused with the already existing Thetis Island Community Bursary. It was presented by a TIRRA representative to the student at graduation ceremony at Chemainus Secondary. It will be awarded each year.
The second bit of news is that the CVRD is receiving $7.1 million in gas tax money to be divided up among the electoral areas over 5 years. We have already promised the Thetis Island Recycling Station $22,500 from this money to buy a bailer and a glass crusher to make their recyling operation more efficient. It will cut down the costs as well.
And thirdly, the CVRD and myself are trying to get the residents of Pilkey Point Road reconnected to the internet after Telus suspended the service earlier. We hope to get a subsidy from the provincial government.
And remember the local elections are held this Saturday November 15th at Forbes Hall 9:30-5:30 pm
