PS from a volunteer: This is a formal procession.  Pedestrians can view.

Even if you didn't know Harry Armstrong, a gentle man who helped found our so helpful Thetis Island Fire Department, this procession will be an interesting: from the Fire Hall to Forbes Hall by Mission Road with all the fire department vehicles and personnel as well as "visiting Firemen."

The Celebration of the Life of  Harry Armstrong takes place this Saturday the 26th at Forbes Hall community centre.  There will be an Honour Guard and parade formation of TIVFD members, past members and other Fire Service personnel following behind the TIVFD Engine 1 from the fire hall to Forbes, arriving at 2:00 p.m. for a short flag ceremony.  Therefore, vehicle parking on Forbes Hall grounds will be limited to those with disabilities and the Armstrong family and those vehicles must be parked before 1:45 p.m.  TIVFD Aux. Traffic Control Team members will be on hand to assist you in finding alternate parking along Mission Road or in front of the school.

The Fire Engine needs room to maneuver through the Forbes Hall driveway and for safety there should be no vehicles moving along the short Mission Road marching route after 1:50 p.m.  We ask that you arrive early at the community centre, and there will be seating in the main hall.  When the Honour Guard formation arrives (you will hear us coming- there is a Piper) you may choose to come outside and gather near the flagpole.  There will be seating for Marge Armstrong and her family and those unable to stand, and limited standing room under our fire dept. canopies in case of rain, so be prepared for several minutes outside in the rain.  Following the flag ceremony we will all return inside and Sr. FF Tim French will emcee the gathering.  There will be time for your reminiscences of Harry and a catered tea is offered by the Armstrong family.

Thank you for your understanding of the parking situation.  Thank you for honouring Harry’s great contribution to our community.

Former members of the TIVFD are requested to muster at the Fire Hall at 1:30 pm and will form up behind the active members for the march behind Engine 1 to Forbes Hall.
