Seachange Marine Conservation Society and the Thetis Island Nature Conservancy invite Thetis Islanders, along with members of Gulf Island conservancies, to join us on April 29 and 30 for a Community Workshop on Marine Nearshores: Increasing Resiliency in a Time of Climate Changes. The desired outcome of this two day training is to increase participation of Gulf Island community members in monitoring nearshore marine habitats in a time of rising sea levels and more intense storms. This event will serve as a pilot for other islands within the Islands Trust area to become more active in the conservation of marine habitats.

Presenters include Nikki Wright and Leanna Boyer from SeaChange (eelgrass, beach wrack and marine riparian), Ricky Belanger (shoreline monitoring; forage fish spawning), Andy Lamb (rockfish use of eelgrass ecosystems), and Florence James (First Nations traditional use of marine nearshores).

Participation is by donation to the Thetis Island Nature Conservancy to assist with expenses. For registration information and a copy of the agenda contact  ThINC@thetisisland.net  or go to www.thetisislandnatureconservancy.org .  Please register by April 1. Space is limited.

Join us on the beach for what promises to be an informative, inspiring and fun weekend.
