The tower being added to the fire Hall is called a hose tower. Traditionally all fire halls had one for hanging hoses to dry after use so they wouldn’t rot. Then came electric hose dryers if departments could afford them (turns out they don’t last long and are expensive) and rubber hose that doesn’t need drying (but has a separate set of problems). On Thetis we have traditionally draped wet hose over top of the vehicles for several days to dry, which can be a problem when we want to move out quickly. The hose tower will allow us to drain and dry hose properly and comes with the added bonus of being a training tower for ladder drills and rescue skills.
