Having been coming to Thetis Island for 70 years I have noticed quite a few changes over the years. New roads, electricity, phones, ferries, new residents and of course the addition of Forbes Hall. The land was donated to the community to build a hall where Thetis Islanders would have a place to meet and help build a community. It provided a place where islanders could socialize, exercise, read and learn new skills.

When I decided to retire and live on Thetis almost full time, I realized what an asset Forbes Hall was for the whole community. It was the Hub of the island. How many of you have met islanders who have become life long friends? It gave me the opportunity to learn and participate in new activities such as Scottish Country Dancing, Yoga and Tai Chi.

It also gave me the opportunity to participate in one of my favourite pastimes, cooking. Being able to volunteer to help out with Soup’s On, Seniors Dinners, Soiree, Burns Dinner and café TICA amongst other events has been one of my greatest pleasures. Where else could you volunteer to help out at so many varied events and where you could meet so many interesting and vibrant individuals.

Forbes Hall has provided the space for people to meet, discuss and implement new programs and ideas that have helped this Island to grow positively. Think of how much more can be accomplished with a new enhanced Forbes Hall.
