St. Margaret’s Cemetery is looking to create a volunteer stewardship program for the maintenance of the new cemetery area. As many of you may be aware a small parcel of land adjacent to St. Margarets Cemetery was donated by Capernwray a number of years ago. A plan has been in development to create a green cemetery in this area. This plan combined with  environmental stresses  such as the die off of cedars and balsam fir and the collapse of the bank have precipitated our taking some actions. The consequences of those actions have created other problems primarily invasive blackberries in the new area.

We are looking to establish a group of volunteers who would each be responsible for a quadrant of the new area their job to be removing by hand blackberry plants. It is the cemetery's policy not to use chemicals. Goats would destroy not only the blackberries but all the native plants trying to establish themselves.  The volunteer would be asked to commit to maintaining their section by removing the blackberries  over the next few years. You would work at your time and speed.

If you would like to participate in this opportunity to create and maintain a beautiful natural environment
