Gibson’s Fire Department recently responded to a car fire that was initiated by a plastic container containing hand sanitizer. The container in the vehicle was in direct sunlight and had some space in it since the owner had been using it after shopping, etc.  The sun acted as a prism and the alcohol partially converted to a fine mist and basically created a bomb in the heat, destroying the vehicle.  Following that, Gibson’s Fire Department was able to recreate the volatile problem with the same outcome...twice.

The takeaway for us is to be careful where you leave your container of hand sanitizer...don’t expose it to sun/heat in your vehicle.
