As we head into the wetter, stormier season, we are looking for volunteers to open Forbes Hall for islanders when there are power outages.
These volunteers will be oriented in opening and closing the hall, and to the Beverage Station’s equipment and supply. Many of you already know these things due to your participation in events and activities.
There will be factors to how long you could expect to be at the hall, such as length of the power outage or other commitments. Each shift could be 2-3 hours.
Once we have a team together these details can be sorted.
Depending on the severity or length of the power outage, Food Services volunteers would assist with feeding people.
“Power Out” days at Forbes Hall are congenial with islanders dropping by to enjoy a warm space, with electricity, running water, WiFi, and hot beverages and snacks. A great place to do remote work, read, work on puzzles, play cards, or just visit by the fire.
Last year we saw anywhere from 20 – 60 people using the hall during a power outage. This year we want to be more organized; this is why we’re calling for volunteers.
Looking forward to hearing from anyone who’d like to be on “the list”. The best scenario would be 6-8 people to accommodate people being away, and no one person always needing to be there.
