Incursion of Urban Values into Rural Areas

The CRD (Capital Regional District) is taking a Salt Spring family to court for refusing to relinquish their rooster. Apparently, CRD Bylaw Enforcement is hoping to win this case in order to set a precedent across the Southern Gulf Islands. The CRD Chief Enforcement Officer is reported to not see small 'hobby' farms or 'back yard flocks' as legitimate farming.

Luckily we are not in the CRD, but if you would like to help your neighbors on Salt Spring who are suffering from this drive to urbanization, and perhaps reduce the risk of this kind of thing eventually happening here on Thetis, there is a petition you could sign at:
