The bountiful rainfall last week gave us a great break on the Fire Danger Class scale and the Danger Class needle was at LOW for the past eleven days. That was very unusual for August these past few years!
However, we have climbed up to MODERATE Fire Danger this long weekend and we urge you to continue to be safe and vigilant with your evening campfires. After you have been given your evening Campfire Permit by applying on-line towww.thetisislandfire.ca, make sure you have at least 3 feet (1 metre) of cleared area (down to mineral soil) around your campfire ring and no fire larger than 18” wide and the flame height lower than 18”.
Any campfire over 18” ( 1/2 metre) is considered a Category 2 or 3 fire and is prohibited at this time. Regulations call for at least 8 litres of water and a hand tool at the campfire while it is lit, and a responsible adult must be present.
