Humpback whales passed Thetis Island a couple of days ago—a wonderful thing to see. Made me think how easy it is to miss cetaceans (orcas, porpoises, other whales).
So, I’ve set up a way for us to alert each other when there are cetaceans around Thetis.
Interested? Two simple steps.
First, if you don’t already have the Signal app on your mobile, download it (https://signal.org/), open it, and follow the simple setup. Allow notifications.
(Signal’s a messaging app like WhatsApp, but non-profit and not Meta/Facebook.)
Second, on the mobile where you now have the Signal app, click on this link to join the Thetis Cetacean Sightings group: https://tinyurl.com/thetiscetaceans
If you spot orcas, porpoises, or other whales around Thetis, send a short message to the group saying where they are and where they’re headed. And look out for that info from others.
Strictly for sharing info in real time about cetaceans visible from Thetis.
To protect everyone’s peace, I’ll remove anyone who uses this for anything else, including chatter.
Tech difficulties? Ask a teenager.
Happy whale-watching!
