Hey Islanders, Sean Jonas here. I’m running to represent Area G on the Cowichan Valley Regional District board.

I live in Saltair and have spent about 20 years as a financial advisor, helping people understand their options and make decisions about their future. I also served as Mel Dorey’s alternate, giving me experience with regional government.

I’m running because I believe representation starts with showing up, listening, and following through. Thetis has its own needs and priorities, and your voice deserves to be heard at the regional table.

One idea I’d like to work on with you is greater local autonomy over a dedicated Thetis service budget. Islanders have raised concerns about paying for regional recreation facilities they seldom use while local projects need funding.

I’ve been looking into the island-specific service arrangements used for Denman and Hornby in the Comox Valley Regional District. If elected, I’ll work with you to verify what Thetis contributes, examine the options, and pursue a lawful framework that gives Islanders more say over funding for island priorities. That would require community direction, a workable service structure, and regional approvals.

The idea and priorities belong to you. My role would be to do the legwork and keep you informed.

I’m asking for your support in this election so I can do that work with you.

I’ll be at Saturday’s Islands Trust candidates’ meeting to listen to your questions and concerns.

I’m available before or after, or you can call me at 250-618-3317.
