Want to know when orcas, humpback whales, or porpoises are visible from Thetis Island? With many eyes on the sea, it turns out they’re here more often than you might know. Lots of recent orca sightings. And there’s a chatter-free way to know as soon as they’re around, and tell others if you’ve spotted a cetacean, too.
How to join:
If you don’t already have the Signal app on your mobile, download it (https://signal.org/), open it, and set it up. Allow notifications.
(Signal is a messaging app like WhatsApp, but non-profit, and not Meta/Facebook.)
Then, on the mobile where you now have the Signal app, click on this link to join the Thetis Cetacean Sightings group: https://tinyurl.com/thetiscetaceans.
Once you’re in, you’ll hear from others on Thetis when there are orcas, porpoises, or other whales around Thetis. And, if you spot them yourself, send a message to the group saying where they are and where they’re headed.
To protect everyone’s peace, please use this only for sharing real-time info about cetaceans around Thetis. Many thanks to the 65 current members, all of whom respect this. (Thumbs-ups and thanks for reports are allowed!)
Happy whale-watching!
