A reminder from the TIVFD and Concerned Residents:
Throwing a lit cigarette out of a vehicle in BC violates the provincial Wildfire Act It is considered dropping or mishandling a burning substance and carries a steep fine of $575. Under the Motor Vehicle Act, a general littering violation carries a lesser $81 penalty, but the stricter wildfire penalty is applied to burning items to protect communities.
