Dear Friends and Neighbours,
We wanted to provide an update on Jackie and Greta.
After weeks of searching, we were unfortunately unable to find housing where they could remain together. This Thursday, Grete will be leaving Thetis Island to join her son in Victoria, where she will have the love and support of family. We wish her nothing but the very best as she begins this next chapter.
Jackie, however, still has nowhere permanent to call home.
For the time being, she will be moving into an older camper. It has no electricity, no running water, and no sewage hookups, so this will truly be a temporary camping situation while we continue our search for safe, permanent housing.
If you have any of the following items sitting unused, they would make an enormous difference:
● A generator (even an older working one) solar lights. Flashlights.
● Camping shower bags
● Water jugs, especially those with hand pumps
● Outdoor rugs or flooring for around the camper
● Camping furniture or other sturdy outdoor equipment
● Small propane tanks for a barbecue
● Coolers, storage bins, or other camping essentials
If you’re unsure whether something might be useful, please reach out. Every little bit helps make this temporary situation safer and more comfortable.
If you are able to donate any of these items, or if you have leads on housing for Jackie, please contact either of us to arrange pickup.
To everyone who has donated, volunteered, shared our posts, or simply offered kindness and encouragement—thank you. Your generosity has been overwhelming and has reminded Jackie and Grete that they are surrounded by a community that truly cares.
We remain hopeful that together we can find Jackie a safe, permanent place to call home and she can have Grete back with her.
With heartfelt gratitude,
Hedi
