You may have noticed that there has been work in the Hall’s parking area and grounds this week. This is being done in response to community members’ concerns regarding safety in the parking and playground areas as well as continued work upgrading the grounds.
PARKING AREA
New signs have been erected at the entrance to the hall to try and reduce speed. While they do direct drivers to slow down, the board continues to find ways to reduce speed. Designated parking spaces will be created with a combination of painted lines and wooden stops for stall or angle parking. Currently some test markings are in place.
PLAYGROUND AND DRIVEWAY GARDEN
In response to parents’ concern about children’s safety, a buffer garden of river rock and grasses will be planted between the playground and driveway. It includes large rocks behind a split-rail fence. Another fence will be installed at the left of the playground to prevent children from extending their play into the adjacent parking.
In the short term, portable markers have been placed to remind drivers to not park along the playground and to provide a temporary buffer zone.
The driveway garden will be replanted with a Paperbark Maple and grasses that will compliment those planned for the playground gardens, providing a more cohesive look to the driveway entrance. Both gardens, which will be low maintenance and drought resistant once established, will be planted this fall.
SPORTS COURT
With conducive weather, Doug Darling was able to work this week. The perimeter of the Sports Court has been bordered with three to four feet of gravel abutting the asphalt. Installation of a border at the north end will be installed to ease mowing, and there will also be reseeding to refit the grassy areas.
