Live Drama of the Gospel of Mark ~ Encore Performance April 27th

Mark Drama Returns!  Laughter and inspiration!

For those who missed the opportunity to see the Mark drama a few weeks ago we want to invite you again to see this 90 min presentation on Saturday evening at 7:15 pm. A play with 15 actors re-tells the Gospel of Jesus written by the apostle Mark with lots of laughs but also food for thought. Feel free to bring a friend and join us up in the barn building (Gym) on Saturday night.

Spring Picnic with Grail Dancer

Plans are afloat for the spring picnic we dreamed of in December.

Thanks & Info on Pillowcase Dresses

Thanks to everyone on Thetis Island who donated their gently used pillow cases and sewing notions that helped my GG Trefoil Guild work with the Pathfinder Girl Guides and their leaders in Chemainus making dresses to be sent to young girls in Africa via "Disaster Aid, Canada".

Forty-five dresses were completed on Saturday. The girls learned about prepping and machine sewing. Additional dresses will be made and sent to girls in various needy areas.

A sample dress is on display at Forbes Hall.

School Orchards Africa Society Dinner & Dance Fundraiser

School Orchards Africa Society is holding yet another “FUN” raiser on April 26th at Forbes Hall in the Community Centre. The Mount Brenton Ceili Band will be here entertaining us with fabulous Celtic, Cajun and Canadian music. Come tap your feet to the sounds of the mandolin, fiddle, guitar, flute and boran drum. Doors open at 5:30, dinner – provided by the dynamic duo of Don & Nettie- will be served at 6:30 followed by a short S.O.A.S. slide presentation and then on to some serious musical entertainment and dancing!!  Tickets are still available & are free but limited due to fire regulations. All donations go directly to the furthering of the work of planting and maintaining fruit trees in Tanzania school yards.  Door prizes will be awarded at the end of the evening.  

The dinner menu is:

Pulled Pork on a bun with coleslaw

Mushroom Stroganoff with or without a bun

Green Salad

Desserts: Chocolate Zucchini Cake with Raspberry Sauce or Rhubarb  Apple Crumble

Beer and wine will be available  - $4.00 each

We've received some photos, but would love to have more to choose from!

To celebrate thetisblog’s first anniversary, we’re holding a photo contest, looking for quintessential pictures of Thetis or our community.

Rules: the photo must have been taken on Thetis, or looking at Thetis.  It must have been taken between April 1^st 2012 and April 30^th 2013.  All submissions need to have been taken by the person submitting them. Please include your name, the general area & the date the photo was taken.  If the photo is of a community event, please mention the event.  E-mail your photo in full-sized format to editor@thetisblog.net

The winner will win a basket of home baking by Ann Dickie, and the photo will shown be on the front page of the blog for the next six months.  The runner-up’s photo will be shown on the front page for the six months following.  A gallery of the submitted photographs will be created on thetisblog and will also be forwarded to the Quarterly for future use.

Entry Deadline is April 30^th, 2013.

Local Islands Trust News

This note is to inform you of some recent changes at our Thetis Island Local Trust Committee level:

1) We are pleased to welcome Aleksandra Brzozowski as our new planner for the Thetis Local Trust Area. Planner Brzozowski is available by phone: 1-250-247-2207 or toll free: 1-800-663-7867 (ask for her at the Islands Trust Gabriola Island Office); and by email: abrzozowski@islandstrust.bc.ca 

2) We offer our hearty congratulations to Planner Courtney Simpson who has been promoted to Regional Planner Manager for the Northern Office on Gabriola Island.

3) Our regular Thetis Island Local Trust Committee business meetings now begin at 9:15 am, in the Community Centre Library. The remaining scheduled regular business meetings for 2013 are on the following dates on Wednesdays: June 5; July 24; Sept. 25; and Nov. 20. 

4) Due to the current very low use of regular planner hours on Thetis Island we now offer on island planner visits by appointment rather than with each regularly scheduled business meeting as had been the practice. A face to face meeting or site visit with a planner can be very helpful so don't hesitate to request a one if needed. Please contact Planner Brzozowski by phone or email, as noted above, to book an appointment.

The purpose of the meeting is to review/discuss and gain feedback for the sustainability of our solid waste system, as well as consider raising our parcel tax budget cap.
