Recycling Plastics Presentation

Many thanks to Ann Eriksson for her very informative and extremely interesting presentation on plastics and their effects on our environment and our health. Ann’s session was filled with much need information and needless to say, was highly educational. Thanks also to Stephanie Cottell for helping organize Ann’s presentation.

The presentation was well attended at our community’s sanitation (solid waste) yard, on Saturday, August 25th. It is our hope that there will be follow-up information sessions, as well as future ESPOKES postings.

In the meantime, please ensure you do your best to assist our team at the sanitation yard; you can help by cleaning and presorting your recyclable materials as well as making sure that your household garbage contains no materials that can be recycled. The volunteers and staff at the yard will be more than happy to assist you and answer any questions you may have regarding solid waste collection, recyclable materials and appropriate garbage disposal.

Once again, our many thanks to Tim French and Vicki Walker and all the volunteers at the sanitation yard.

Memorial Tea for Rosemary Boehringer

Rosemary Boehringer passed away suddenly early Sunday morning, she was in good health and had been looking forward to some fall travel.

All of us in the Thetis Community are grateful to have known Rosemary.  We extend our heartfelt sympathy to her family.

Please find the right time to communicate your support for her family in this difficult period.

An informal gathering to remember Rosemary will be held at 1:30pm on Saturday, September 1in Forbes Hall, Community Centre.  Please come as you are and celebrate Rosemary.

Anyone wishing to bring floral tributes and things should co-ordinate with Gloria Taylor and use only items from their gardens.

Capernwray Watercolours & Quilting

Capernwray Harbour would like to invite Thetis Islanders to come to an art show put on by the Watercolour group that is staying at Capernwray this week.  The ladies will be around the island this week painting local scenes and will be showing and selling their work:

Thursday August 30 at 6:30 pm on the Oceanfront Patio of the Main Hall (weather permitting or it will be indoors)

There is also a quilting group here that will be doing a "Show and Share" of their work.  That will take place also on Thursday August 30 starting at 7:45 pm in the Lecture Hall.

Everyone is welcome!

Red Crossbills Visiting...

As far as we know for the first time in over 30 years, we have a family of Red Crossbills living at our farm.  The first tell was their very different song - followed by seeing the female with her young.  Today we were excited to finally see the male, along with the female and three juveniles at our birdbath.

TICA ~ TIRRA Membership

A REMINDER

- have you paid your 2012 membership fees? The TICA membership includes a subscription to the popular Quarterly Magazine--if you have not been receiving yours, this is most likely an alert indicating fees were not paid!

New to the Island? TIRRA and TICA are operated by Island volunteers----

TIRRA - Thetis Island Residents' and Ratepayers' Association dues cover administration costs for issues such as highways, ferries, community planning, operation of St. Margaret's Cemetery and, most important, the oversight of the solid waste system...our "Trash Depot & Free Store".

TICA - Thetis Island Community Association volunteers are responsible for administration and maintenance of Forbes Hall Community Centre, the tennis court, play area, community library, the road and grounds around the hall and now for the full funding for the Internet access.

Perhaps you can't remember if you paid or not? Check by emailing

The fee request can be found on TICA's website, click here.
