Proposal for Chemainus Shuttle Service...

Thetis Islanders might be interested in a proposal by Len Larkin (see PDF at www.thetisisland.net/Chemainus-Shuttle.pdf) about a possible shuttle service in Chemainus.  He is still working out how it would be financed, but sees it as both a useful service and a good employment opportunity.  He writes:

"Many places in the USA are now using [these multi-passenger carts] where larger buses are not feasible to operate.

"I am only a concerned citizen interested in improving Chemainus. I am showing how we could operate this service without involving the government. Ideally it would be sponsored by merchants.

"I have noticed that when people get off the ferry they have to walk to whoever they are going, this could be a service where everyone benefits.

"The reason I am offering my services is that I have a tour operators license, I am also handicapped and use a scooter, I know many disabled and seniors could use some extra income and give them an excuse to get out and interact with their neighbors.

"This not a profit making endeavour for me.  The majority of the operating cost goes to the drivers, and dispatchers who are disabled and cannot drive but they can operate the telephones - the majority are on subsistence and can make a certain amount per month, I could help them in this regard.

"I am looking for community support by indicating their interest in using the service to make this a reality.

"The Business Improvement Association (in Chemainus) is taking it to their Board of Directors in January."

If you think this sounds like a good idea and would like to support it, even if only verbally, you can do so by writing Len Larkin at amazeingsolutions@shaw.ca, Doug Smith at doug.w.smith@icloud.com, Warren Goulding at
