Family Thinking of Moving to Thetis

My family and I are contemplating buying on Thetis Island. We are a young 30's professional couple (I am and RN and my husband is a business manager).

We have a toddler and another child on the way. We currently live on Vancouver Island in Langford but are unhappy with the city life. We want to raise our children in a close community where people and nature are important. We want to leave behind the consumer driven society we currently live in where not having the latest toy, video game etc is an issue for some people.

We are earth friendly, hardworking, peaceful people looking to get back to the earth and teach our kids accordingly. That being said I would like to hear from local people about Thetis island and what it is like to raise young children on it, commute on the ferry to work everyday, etc. Are there daycares, feed stores,  community center, libraries etc.

What sorts of things are there to do for kids in the summer? We would be wanting to have a small hobby farm with a few animals to provide for our family. Is this lifestyle embraced or are chickens and bees and a pig, goat not allowed?  I have looked at many websites on Thetis island but would really like to hear first hand from people the good and bad about this island as it would be a big move for us. Thank you so much for reading this and for responding to those who do!
