Ragged Islet Update

Many of you are aware of, and have visited the beautiful Islet directly north of Pilkey Point.  Ragged Islet (some refer to it as an island) has no official designation. It is however a marine habitat.  Seals and many bird species nest there.

At times, a small number of people mistakenly bring their dogs there, others have camped on the island and still others have foolishly had camp fires there. Ragged Islet is a truly wonderful and magical place for a day visit. Most of us would like to ensure it stays as pristine as it is for as long as possible.

On that note a few members of our Thetis Island Community decided to create an “ad hoc association”; RIPA, or Ragged Islet Protection Association. We had two signs made and subsequently placed on the rock outcroppings, one on the S.E side the other on the N.W. side of Ragged. The signs state: Marine Habitat, followed by instructions for day use only.  We took it upon ourselves to take some action having only the best interest of Ragged Islet’s environment, marine and bird life as a priority.

If you would care to make a small contribution, in any amount, to the cost of the sign it would be deeply appreciated. So far, 10 individuals have contributed. It would be great to get more contributions to help with “leveling the playing field” for those who have already contributed.

If you are interested in donating a small amount, please do so by placing a cheque made out to Steve Frankel in the P.O. Mail Box.  Mailing address: RIPA P.O. Box 17-4.

Unfortunately, we cannot give Tax Receipts as we are not an official organization or chartable organization.

If you have any questions please contact me by phone only 250-246-2099

Thank you for your support

Steve Frankel
