Harry Armstrong

Marge Armstrong has asked me to convey to our community the very sad news of the passing of Harry Armstrong on Thursday, September 29, 2016 at 07:30 a.m. in the Cowichan District Hospital, Duncan BC, with Marge and his family around him.

Marge and Harry moved to Thetis Island in July of 1979 after Harry had served for thirty years in the Vancouver Fire Dept.  Even though he was very busy building their house near Pilkey Point, two months later Pete Rees had convinced Harry to join the TIRA Fire Brigade and between the two retired Vancouver fire captains, they built what is now known as your TIVFD.

Harry served as Deputy Chief of the TIVFD for twenty-three more years until his second retirement from the Fire Service in 2003.  After his well deserved retirement was announced, Harry and Marge continued to support the Thetis Island Volunteer Fire Dept. as mentors, and they never missed a TIVFD summer picnic nor the November TIVFD Appreciation Dinners.

Marge and family are planning a Thetis Island “Celebration of Life” to honour Harry’s memory with the TIVFD, friends and neighbours, sometime in November.  As details are firmed up, there will be a community notice posted on eSpokes and the Thetis Blog.

Marge will be staying in the Lower Mainland with son Brent and family for the next several weeks, and you may direct mail to her c/o Brent Armstrong, 2674 Klassen Court, Port Coquitlam, BC  V3C 5Y8.

Fire Chief J. Caldbeck,

Thetis Island Volunteer Fire Department
