Saturday, September 16, 2017 at 9:12AM A good friend who is very Safety conscious just pulled out the household dryer to MAKE some repairs before the rains come and clothesline drying becomes problematic. She was shocked to discover how much lint had accumulated in and around the dryer, even though she empties the lint trap regularly. She thought it would be timely to remind those with clothes dryers to make sure to clean out the very flammable lint from in and around your unit and check your wiring for wear.
There are about 16,800 clothes-dryer fires in residential buildings annually in the United States, according to the U.S. Fire Administration. These preventable fires caused 15 deaths, 300 injuries and about $88 million US in property damage. (There are no comparable statistics available for Canada.)
