In 2016, trustee Graeme Shelford benchmarked how other islands fund their first responder services and found that Thetis received the least support from the Vancouver Island Health Authority (VIHA). Therefore we applied to VIHA for the same $10,000 a year subsidy that Saturna gets. As announced at the last TIRRA meeting, VIHA readily agreed that we deserve equal treatment.  We have now received the first $10,000 cheque, which is a valuable contribution towards the funding of our Fire Department's first responder service.
