Broom Removal
Friday, February 23, 2018 at 7:10AM Two forestry technicians visited our island this month to reclassify our forest cover for the Wildfire Community Planning Process. They advised that getting rid of scotch broom plants will reduce the fire risk during dry summers. Broom is easy to ignite and burns furiously. To mitigate wildfire potential, particularly along your road frontage, cut broom before the seeds form after flowering. The technicians noted the heavy infestations along the North Cove Road area but broom can be found (and should be destroyed) all over the island.
