Something New & Appreciated
Friday, September 6, 2019 at 8:44AM Recently retired to Thetis Island?
The Thetis Island Volunteer Fire Department is looking for women and men who can commit to important and needed volunteering for the community by training to be a fire fighter. Due to our islanders’ great vigilance and fire safety education, Thetis Island enjoys a very low structural and bush fire response.
However, we train diligently for safety and ready response. We also operate a well-trained and professional pre-hospital First Responder medical program to assist residents and visitors safely to the next level of care. The community, through taxation, supports the fire department infrastructure, operations and training to Provincial and National standards.
We ask that you consider giving the community two or three years of service by joining the TIVFD and in return you will gain valuable skills and make lasting friendships. No experience is necessary. The department supplies the equipment and trains once a week for two hours. You need not be a super athlete but reasonably fit and your life experience in other fields and careers would enhance our skills base.
We are starting a new recruit training class soon, and welcome your interest in membership. You may have never thought of becoming a fire fighter before, but all of our present members hadn’t either until they came out and discovered they could make a difference in others’ lives when they were having a bad day.
We will be holding a Question & Answer gathering on fire department membership at the Firehall on Mission Road on Thursday, September 19th, at 7pm. Please consider attending.
