Quick Reminder about EXTREME
Saturday, September 7, 2019 at 6:56AM We are still in EXTREME Fire Hazard here, as are the Salt Spring, Cedar, and North Cowichan reporting stations. The fire weather forecast is for rain Sunday night or Monday and if that rain actually hits the ground here for three days we will drop to HIGH Hazard and early shift activities can start again. We will post here on on the TIVFD website when HIGH RISK ACTIVITIES can begin again.
In the meantime, September is traditionally a bad month for fires because people enjoy the cooler evenings, the dew in the mornings, and even the morning fog and become complacent with fire. But the woods are now at their driest and ponds and wells are low. We all appreciate your vigilance and patience. Soon enough we will be in Moderate and then Low and then snow!
