Forbes Hall Expansion Update - July 9, 2020

Thetis Island Community Association

What a difference a roof makes!

Over the past two weeks, the crew has been completing the installation of the trusses and sheathing on Forbes Hall. The new metal roofing will be completed this week, and it looks great! Soon the flashing and skylights will be installed, providing the much-dreamed-of sheltered space. Tuesday’s site meeting was held in the covered entry, while the cold July rains fell around us. As well, the final concrete is in place; completing the driveway apron, walkway to the electrical shed, and the north side’s access area.

What’s to come? Over the next couple of weeks, the roofing package will be completed, and a thorough review of the completed structural components will be doneOnce this review is accomplished, the sign off by geotechnical and structural engineers can take place; a momentous step in the progression of the hall.

We encourage anyone who wants a tour of the hall to contact Ann Dickie. The excitement shown by all of those who have already toured is encouraging and affirming to project volunteers.

Construction volunteers are regularly working on site. The clean-up group, which comes in every day, allows for the skilled and paid crew to do what they do best - build our hall. Anyone wanting to participate by volunteering at the work-site should contact Greg Gall. To date, volunteers have provided 430.5 hours of on-site service to their community. A huge thanks to all of them!

Are you interested in getting involved with the project? There are a few committees already formed or being formed that will work on several programs including funding, community engagement, and events. If you are energized and ready to participate, we’d love to hear from you. Please contact Kathleen Thompson or Teresa Moore. Committee meetings are held in spaces that allow for physical distancing at all times.

To the crew that keeps on ticking with good vibes and good tunes, we thank you!
