Thetis Island Wharf Update

The Thetis Island Wharf is owned by the Cowichan Valley Regional District (CVRD). It is funded entirely by the property owners of Thetis and Hudson Islands, through a Parcel Tax. The tax is currently $50.86 per parcel.
An Engineering Survey of the Wharf was completed in the spring of 2020 by Herold Engineering. As a result of this survey the wharf was closed to all vehicle traffic.
The cost estimates to repair the dock for vehicle traffic is approximately, in 2020 dollars, $200,000 and for pedestrian only use is $140,000.
We currently have approximately $75,000 in reserves and on other $60,000 in Community Works Fund (Gas Tax Rebate) to Electoral area G in the CVRD. The shortfall could be funded by borrowing the amount through a municipal loan from The CVRD, The increase would repay the loan, pay for annual Maintenance an Operation (M&O), and create a surplus for long term major repairs. Other revenue sources are been explored by the CVRD.
The CVRD will be going out for tenders on this project before the end of the year.
