Telegraph Harbour Name Origin

From BC Geographical Names branch of the province the following is quoted:
“Origin Notes and History:
Adopted 14 January 1946 on chart 3618, as established on Captain Richards' chart of 1858-60 (chart name and number not cited). Origin/ significance not recorded.
Source: BC place name cards & correspondence, and/or research by BC Chief Geographer & Geographical Names Office staff, file T.1.45.”

Although the origin/significance is not recorded, I suspect that it was Captain Richards himself that named the bay or harbour “Telegraph Harbour” due to his interest in the new technology. He went on, later in his career, to work in that field.

If anyone reading this has researched Richards’ ship’s logs or journals and has come across any reference that might be helpful to confirm my theory, please let me know.
