Shq’ula’tth’us

phonetic:Shqul ah tth'us or try shuk'kalaat'tus

We invite the community to join us for a special gathering to acknowledge and honour Shq’ula’tth’us (refuge), the Hul’q’umi’num place name and history shared by Pune'luxutth Elder Florence James.

· When: 11:30 am Wednesday, July 17th
· Where: Marina Drive meets Pilkey Point Road, by the slough.

Elder Florence James will speak about the significance of this place in Pune'luxutth history, offering an excellent opportunity for place-based learning about this unique part of the Island’s geography.

Learn also about the more recent use of the valley beyond, over 100 years of farming.
Shq’ula’tth’us continues to be a place of refuge for wetland flora and fauna.

Join us in this special Island event.

This is an initiative of:
ThINC (Thetis Island Nature Conservancy)
TIRRA (Thetis Island Residents and Ratepayers Association / trails)
TICA (Thetis Island Community Association / signage)
TCA/IWG (Thetis Community Assembly / Indigenous Working Group)
with Bill & Ann Dickie.

Traffic control provided by the Thetis Island Volunteer Fire Department.

Funding for honoraria and meals for Florence and Rocky James is provided by ThINC's Nature Stewards program, which in turn is supported by grants from The MacLean Foundation and the BC Conservation and Biodiversity Awards, and by donations from individuals. The Nature Stewards Program provides ecological and cultural information to support stewardship of the land and waters of Thetis Island.
