Hul'qumi'num Language and Salish Art Class

November 21st, 2025: 11am to 2 pm, Forbes Hall

As a reconciliation component of this year's Health talk program, we are excited to host Philomena Williams and Stuart Pagaduan for a combined introductory Hul'qumi'num language and Coast Salish art class.

Please note that the classes are almost all filled. Once the classes are filled, I will maintain a small waiting list in case spots become available.

If anyone is interested in participating in only one class, we do have a couple of attendees who are only able to attend the first session, freeing up one afternoon language class and one afternoon art class.

T’uwahwiye’ (Philomena Williams) is a respected Cowichan (Quw’utsun’) Elder from Coast Salish territory on Vancouver Island, B.C. A cultural knowledge keeper and protocol guide, she shares teachings with care—supporting Hul’q’umi’num’ language use, song, story, and the practices that uphold respect, relationship, and community wellness.

Stuart Pagaduan is an accomplished Coast Salish artist and educator. His works are on display in numerous galleries. His art class provides an introduction to Coast Salish Art and the traditions it celebrates.

Cost is $40 and includes a light lunch provided by Forbes Hall Food Services (if cost is a barrier, please reach out to me or any Health Group member)

Agenda:
1am: Group A - Language, Group B – art
Noon – Lunch
1pm - Group A - Art, Group B - language

(Each group will have a maximum of 15 people)
For any questions, or to reserve a spot, please contact
davidreay@telus.net
