Summer and Air Quality

As we step into summer we look forward to enjoying the great outdoors. However, recent history has shown us that summer also brings us forest fires and with them poor air quality. Indeed, during active wildfire seasons, wood smoke can become the largest source of air pollution in the province.
To help islanders deal with this issue on June 26th the Forbes Hall Health Group will be hosting a discussion on Smoke and Our Health, Population and Public Health, Island Health will be sharing information on heat and smoke. Along with the talk we will be hosting a workshop on Building Your Own Air Filter. This workshop is led and sponsored by the BC Lung Association and Simon Fraser University.
At the workshop we will see how to make an easy smoke filter to improve indoor air quality from fire smoke or airborne pathogens . There will also be free filter/fan kits provided for the first 10 participants.
