Weather Change Health Info

Early season heat can pose considerable risks due to the body's limited acclimatization to higher temperatures. To mitigate these risks, it is advisable to maintain a cool indoor environment by blocking sunlight through the use of curtains or blinds.

It is also important to be vigilant for signs of heat-related illness, which may include excessive perspiration, skin rashes, muscle cramps, fainting, elevated body temperature, and the exacerbation of pre-existing health conditions.

Please be aware that while fans can improve air circulation, they are not always effective in significantly reducing core body temperature, particularly for older adults. Utilizing fans to draw in cooler outside air can be beneficial; however, if you or someone in your care exhibits symptoms of heat illness, seeking a cooler environment is essential.

During a heatwave, staying hydrated is crucial, and water is the best choice. However, if you're actively exercising or sweating heavily, consider sports drinks or electrolyte-rich alternatives like coconut water. Avoid sugary drinks, alcohol, or high caffeine drinks as they can worsen dehydration.
