Ex-TIVFD Fire Fighter Mindy Thorne & Family Very Seriously Injured

Some of you may know Mindy Thorne from her years with the Thetis Island Fire Department or from her time working at the pub. Mindy and her family were recently involved in a serious motor vehicle collision, in which they all sustained significant injuries.

Mindy’s 6-year-old daughter, Gabby, was airlifted to BC Children’s Hospital with multiple serious injuries, including a broken neck and a brain bleed. She was initially sedated but has since undergone surgery, which was successful. Her ventilator was removed on Thursday, and she was able to sit up today (Friday). The care team hopes to have Gabby standing on Saturday.

Mindy was airlifted to Vancouver General Hospital, where she received specialized surgery on both wrists and her leg. She is now recovering and working to get strong enough to go to the Children’s Hospital to be with her daughter.

Will, Gabby’s father, suffered a broken thigh bone and is doing well following surgery.

Mindy and her family are facing a long and difficult road to recovery.

A GoFundMe campaign has been created by a friend of the family to help cover immediate costs and basic living expenses while Mindy and Will are unable to work, as well as accommodations in Vancouver during hospital stays and visits. Here is the GoFundMe link: https://gofund.me/c727952b4

If you prefer to donate cash, the Fire Department will collect cash donations and ensure they are delivered directly to the family. For cash donations, please reach out to Marjan Jackman via email at marjan.jackman@gmail.com or text/call at 1-647-866-3797.

Thank you for rallying around them with care and support.

Marjan Jackman on behalf of TIVFD
