Investing In Our Collective Future
Sunday, February 1, 2026 at 8:59AM Now, while the winter rains are still topping up our aquifer is the time to get a cistern (or another cistern) connected to your rainwater harvest system to reduce your need for groundwater in the dry months of summer. Drip irrigation, and "sipper switch" timers are also a great way to reduce the chance of over pumping (ask Ernie). Moving towards native and drought tolerant outdoor plants is another way to save water.
Speaking of native plants; I am supporting the efforts of the forest defenders in the Walbran Valley trying to stop the logging of the less than 5% of giant ancient forests that still remain on Vancouver Island. One of the biggest ongoing needs is dry seasoned firewood. (a bit like coal to Newcastle I know) If you have a half a pickup load or more that you would like to donate, please contact me at dslade@telus.net or Wayne and Maureen at sunrisegrail@gmail.com Cash contributions are welcome here and the money goes to those on the front line.https://chuffed.org/project/156056-old-growth-mobile-education-station
Speaking of cash: If you are interested in trying to ensure that your investment dollars are working hard for you but NOT supporting environmentally damaging fossil fuel projects, weapons manufacturing, tobacco production or other harmful endeavours, please consider registering for this Socially Responsible Investing webinar happening on Thursday Feb.12 from 10:00 to 11:00am https://events.teams.microsoft.com/event/56d9fee6-a50f-427d-b3bf-94ca5f8da15f@b6833b00-9e5e-4de5-872c-68b6855479ee
