Green Crab Monitoring Coming Up

Does wading through ankle-deep muck, poking around in crab traps while seagulls hover hopefully overhead sound like your kind of afternoon? If so, we'd love to have you join us for the first series of European Green Crab Monitoring sessions of the season!

We'll be out Monday, April 6 through Wednesday, April 8 (afternoons) - come for one day (30 min - 2 hrs) or all three.

New This Year: Volunteer Badge Program

We're excited to offer a badge that recognizes volunteers who actively contribute to monitoring this invasive species - a great fit for youth looking to build skills and experience.

To earn the badge, volunteers must:
Complete a free ~1-hour online training course through the Invasive Species Council of BC (ISCBC), covering site selection, trapping protocols, and green crab identification
Participate in at least five (retrieval) monitoring sessions in a single season
Assist with hands-on monitoring activities such as setting and checking traps, identifying and measuring crabs, recording data, and following DFO-approved biosecurity and handling protocols
Along the way, you'll develop real skills in invasive species identification, intertidal fieldwork, data collection, and environmental stewardship.
