Lacemaking – Capernwray Bible Center at Preedy Harbour

In 1919, Miss Elsie Spenser travelled from England to Denman Island to visit her brother. She brought her pillow and bobbins and when the women on Denman Island expressed interest, she proceeded to teach them bobbin lace. They travelled to their meetings on Denman Island by boat. Thus began the first Lacemaking Club in Canada - on a Gulf Island! The Denman and District Lace Club celebrated their 100th anniversary a few years ago.

The BC Lacemakers are having their annual Getaway at Capernwray Harbour Bible Center this year. Thursday, May 7th, during the afternoon, they extend an open invitation to anyone who would like to drop in to visit lacemakers, view a variety of lace, and perhaps learn basic lacemaking.

Lacegazette.com is the website for Canadian Lacemakers.
