Campfire Ban coming for Coastal Fire Centre - Fire Danger Rises

A campfire ban is set to take effect across much of coastal B.C. later this week as dry conditions continue to elevate wildfire risk.

The BC Wildfire Service says open fire prohibitions will come into force Thursday at noon within the Coastal Fire Centre, which includes Vancouver Island, the Gulf Islands and the Lower Mainland.

The ban will apply to all categories of open burning, including campfires, backyard burning and industrial fires, with more specifics coming within the next one to two days, the fire centre said.

On Thetis Island, all solid fuel campfires (wood, briquettes etc.) will be banned and campfire permits cancelled. Propane campfire appliances will not be included in the ban at this time. This is the earliest the province has put a campfire ban in place in our region.
