Ken Hunter for Islands Trust

Hello everyone,

My name is Ken Hunter. I am putting my name forward for a third term as trustee. I have really enjoyed the privilege of serving Thetis Islanders and working with many of you to solve problems as they arise. My duty as a trustee has always been to put the interests of Thetis Islanders first. I believe we can “preserve and protect” what we have without unnecessary rules or by making changes solely for the sake of change.

I have lived on Thetis for most of my life. I started my working life as a logger and mill worker (when that was fashionable) then switched to carpentry and then self-employed building contractor. I also spent six years as an air traffic controller and three years as an assistant and editor for an adjudicator in the residential school abuse cases.

Looking back, I was 23 years old when the Trust came into existence in 1974. It was 100% funded then by the provincial government and continued for the following 20 years. Fast forward to this year where the budget is $11.8 million, of which, 85% is paid for by your property tax. It is my view that the province should be funding a greater portion of the Trust that they created.

I am asking for your support for the upcoming term. I will do my best with your help to keep Thetis the same great place it has always been and still is today, while continuing to bring a conscientious voice to Trust Council on your behalf. I am at 299 words so must stop.
