It's that time of year again for Christmas tree safety tips :
When purchasing a real tree, check for freshness by tapping it on the ground – dropping needles indicate a dry, highly flammable tree. Needles should be hard to pull from branches and when bent between your fingers, they do not break.
When purchasing an artificial tree, make sure it’s ‘fire resistant.’ Although this label does not mean the tree won't catch fire, the tree will resist burning and should extinguish quickly. It should also bear the Canadian Standards Association (CSA) label.
Place your tree away from fireplaces, floor heaters and other heat sources. Heated rooms dry out fresh trees, so be sure to keep the stand filled with water by topping it up daily.
Here is a 60 second video on how quickly a dry christmas tree can catch fire:
THE TIVFD WISHES YOU ALL A SAFE AND HAPPY HOLIDAY SEASON.
Thetis Island Community Church invites you to a laid-back Sunday morning Christmas Carol Celebration Dec 20 at 10:00AM
As so many islanders are off with family by Christmas Eve we’ve decided to hold a non-traditional service where we gather around the table with friends sharing coffee & fresh, home-made cinnamon buns. If you love singing carols and the joy of Christmas, Forbes Hall is the place to be on Sunday morning.
We look forward to seeing you there and children are most welcome.
For those of you staying on the island we will be holding the usual Christmas Eve Service which will begin at 7PM.
Wishing you all a blessed Christmas as we celebrate the coming of our Lord & Saviour Jesus Christ.

Harry, who will soon be gracing our island, has a Western saddle adapted to motorbike, for sale. He is open to queries and offers. The saddle, purchased in the USA, has been painstakingly converted into a motorbike seat.

Hello all,
I am going to take a 3-week break from teaching Yoga. I am cancelling yoga classes on Tuesdays Dec. 15, 22, & 29.
Sonya has a class Thursday, Dec, 17th, and then she will be taking a 2-week brak and will be back in the New Year on Thursdays from 9:30 ~ 10:45AM.
I will be back with Chakra Yoga, exploring our Chakra’s through colour, sound, smell, breath work, mudra, mantras and postures, starting on Thetis Tuesdays 9:30~10:45AM and in Chemainus from January 12th 5:15~6:45PM at St. Michaels All Angels Church Hall.
Thank you all for your support in 2015. It was such a great year. I am excited for all the new possibilities in 2016. Have a great holiday, enjoy the darkness and January brings new light and longer days.
Warmly
Dawn Gordon
Hello, I’ve recently purchased the Alaskan, and am wondering if anyone has any information about the history of this vessel.
