Thanks from Thetis Island School

Sept 29th will mark the passing of Harry Armstrong, one year ago. While he is sadly missed by his family, others will remember him as THE QUIET MAN.

I would like to thank all Thetis Islanders for their kindnesses to me this past year - chauffeuring me to & from the ferry and taking me to all functions I wish to attend. More importantly, your help has permitted me to stay in the home we built some 37 years ago. I'm always so relieved when I return home. There's no place like Thetis, but we all know that! To name you all is prohibitive & someone always gets left out. I extend to each & every one of you,my deepest thanks.

Gratefully yours,

Marge

Yard Waste Fires Still Prohibited on Thetis

Coastal Fire will be opening up Category 2 and 3 fires this weekend on Vancouver Island but the Thetis Island Fire Service Area will still remain closed to open fires except Campfires (with permits) at this time.  Our local conditions warrant this prohibition.  We will continue to monitor and will inform you of a change.  Thank you for your patience with your burning desires.

2017 Flu Shot Clinic Changes

This year VIHA is focussing on children for the annual flu shot drive, and is not putting on any community Flu Shot Clinics on Vancouver Island.  Instead, they are relying upon people to make an appointment with their physician or a pharmacist to receive the vaccination for the 2017/2018 Flu season.  Fees may apply.

BUT DO NOT DESPAIR!  VIHA thinks Thetis Island is “special” and they will have their only community flu shot clinic here on our island this year for the 2017/2018 Flu Season.

Friday OCTOBER 20th at Forbes Hall.

One little change from previous years though:

CHILDREN & FAMILIES at 9:15 am.

ADULTS at 9:45 to 10:45.

Adults can come earlier than your start time, but children and families will be served first.  The VIHA nurses have to catch the ferry, so the Flu Shot Clinic ends at 10:45 because the VIHA  nurses will be out the door to catch the 10:50.  So no stragglers!

As in the past, the terrific TIVFD Auxiliary will be delighting you with their coffee service goodies while you wait the required ten minutes after your inoculation.

We hope you will support this Flu Shot Clinic, which shows VIHA there is a need for community medical services on our island.  This Clinic is made possible by your volunteer fire fighters and the TIVFD Auxiliary and supported financially by the Thetis Island Community Fund.

Sept 2nd Watercolour Workshop

Many thanks to Rita Springer for organizing the watercolour workshop and day’s refreshment at Forbes Hall on Thetis this Labour Day weekend.  My wife, Jackie, and I had a wonderful time!  We thoroughly enjoyed the Island hospitality and spirit.

A big shout out goes to all the participants who came and enjoyed a fun filled day exploring our introduction to “Watercolour on Japanese Art Paper”.

I hope to return to give a follow-up.
