Caution Urged with Fire Use on Labour Day Weekend

The BC Wildfire Service reminds everyone...on the Labour Day long weekend to comply with provincial legislation related to campfire use and open burning.

Although small campfires are once again allowed in most parts of British Columbia, extended hot and dry weather conditions this year have led to increased wildfire risks in many regions.

Small Campfires Allowed, with Permits.

Small evening wood campfires with permits will be allowed starting noon Friday SEPT. 4th. Permits are available at the recycling/waste site on Pilkey Road during operational hours Wednesdays and Saturdays from Andy Lamb or Vicki Walker, and on-line  at thetisislandfire.ca by selecting the Fire Permits link. For questions or concerns call the TIVFD Duty Officer, 250-252-0228.

NO YARD WASTE BURNING AT THIS TIME.  Regulation campfires are  < 18" x 18". Please save your yard waste wind storm boughs for November.

If you are a regular campfire aficionado , we encourage you to look into purchasing an approved propane campfire appliance for the coming years. They are safe, create no sparks, and give you the campfire ambiance you want.  During a Complete Fire Ban these appliances are allowed if CSA or UL approved. The type of extended hot dry summer we are experiencing this year is forecast to be the norm. Open fires will be extremely curtailed or prohibited in the region.

Important TIRRA General Meeting: October 29th

Thursday, October 29, 2015 at 7PM in Forbes Hall

Cpl Rick Fraser of, RCMP Ladysmith Detachment has kindly agreed to attend our General Meeting.

He will be spending the first half hour with us to discuss concerns our community members may have, as well as: hopefully answer our questions, provide suggestions and advice.

As you may be aware, we have had some issues and incidents of concern over the last few months, hopefully these issues can be discussed as well.  The RCMP staff will be first on the Agenda; there are a number of other important Agenda topics that will be discussed as well on the 29th.

If you have any pressing concerns, questions, suggestions, please forward them to me, as Cpl Fraser would like to have some preliminary topics before he arrives.

Hopefully, our residents will make every effort to attend this very important General Meeting!
