Encaustic painting is a process that uses beeswax to carry pigment. You can incorporate your own collage, found objects, or photo imagery, and complete your own masterpiece. Learn about safety and shop practices, tools and their uses, priming techniques, and a variety of paint application processes. No prior experience with Encaustic is necessary!
The TIVFD has partnered with Aggressive Fire Safety to facilitate the purchase of reflective address posts for your driveway Lot Number. The highly visible posts can be seen on many driveways already, aiding in faster emergency response times for the fire dept. and making it easier for Hydro or Telus to find you if your lines are down.
Thetis Island By-Laws require all Lots to have their number posted at each driveway entrance, visible from both directions. The white sign posts have blue highly reflective numbering and are mounted on a piece of heavy-duty rebar (included) that you pound into the ground.
Cost is $45 (includes tax) and we will have your sign at the fire hall for pickup. Email chief11@telus.net to order and for payment instructions.

This fire is suspected to be human caused, and preventable. The area has an extreme fire danger rating. The fire is approximately 45 hectares in size, and is burning in slash and brush and producing heavy smoke. Wind in the area has fanned this aggressively burning ground fire. The wind is blowing sparks and embers ahead of the fire, and the fire’s activity is challenging the air tanker work.
Campfires and open fire are prohibited throughout most of the Coastal Fire Centre, with the exception of the North Island-Central Coast Natural Resource District, Haida Gwaii and the “Fog Zone”. People are urged to take extreme caution when in the forest to ensure they do not provide a spark to start a wildfire.
To report a wildfire, call *5555 on a cellphone or 1 800 663-5555 toll-free.

Please remember that the Province is asking you to report to 911 vehicles whose occupants throw out a cigarette butt from a vehicle. Try to catch the license plate, or at least a car make, colour and the time, location and direction of travel.
And we ask you to find that butt if you can to grind it out aggressively until it can no longer be a threat to our tinder dry island.
