Thetis Island Phone Book

I'm in the last stages of collecting updated information for the next issue of the Thetis Island Phone Book, but there are some people I haven't been able to reach.

One group are those who have recently moved or bought property here, but haven't let me know. I have no way of discovering who the new people are or any contact information for them, so if you fall into that category, or know anyone who does, would you please let me know? There's no requirement, of course, but it does make it easier for the Fire Department and First Responders if you are in there, so if you don't mind being included, please get back to me.

jollity FARM ~ Garlic Storage Tips

Perhaps you still have an abundance of garlic stored from your own harvest, or supplied through your CSA subscription from Jollity FARM? It's tough to keep garlic at this time of the year, when the bulb's natural tendency (wherever it is stored), is to put forth new life in the way of a green shoot. As this happens, the edible quality of your garlic begins to degrade, as the stored energy will go into the green shoot and no longer in the fleshy edible parts.

If you want to halt the process; peel your garlic cloves and pop them into a ziploc bag or container in your freezer. We have stored garlic for a long time this way and they keep very well. The texture and taste will be slightly different but still just as pungent and yummy.

If you are continuing to use your stored garlic that already has green shoots in it, just cut out that green part when preparing for cooking as it can tend to have a bitter taste.

Happy Eating from jollity FARM.
