Burgers, Ballads and Beer

Burgers, Ballads and Beer (a.k.a Nautical Tunes and Tales) is a soirée of music and stories on May 30, sponsored by TIMA (Thetis Island Marine Association), which also brings you the Robbie Burns Banquet. We thought a more summery (and summary) event would be fun, so here it is along with your chance to participate.

If you'd like to share a boat story that's packed with drama and/or humour that can be told in 5 minutes, why not sign up now? Or, if you are musical and would like to treat us to sea shanties or tunes with some reference to boats and oceans, please plan to join us for the evening. It promises to be a lot of fun, especially if the confessional mode dominates and those many navigational mistakes we've all made are polished into five-minute gems.

Location tba, though quite likely at the pub.

You can phone or email me using the information below.

More Mosquito Larvae Tips from TIRRA ~

With recent rains and current warm temperatures, now is the time to start checking around your home and property for mosquito larval habitat.

• Look for standing water in old tires, buckets, tarps, boats, anything that can hold water. Empty or drain the water out.

• Refill your birdbath with fresh clean water.

• Cover or screen rain barrels.

• Check your gutters for blocked or partially blocked downspouts. Clean your gutters so there is no sludge or decomposing material that larvae feed on.

Mosquitoes can lay hundreds of eggs in less than an inch deep of water. It takes about a week for the larvae to hatch. Shallow water can warm up quickly in the sun and provide perfect habitat for mosquitoes to lay eggs over and over again in the same location, multiplying the nuisance.

ThINC Walk Reminder

Just a reminder from ThINC that the walk for Earth Week is happening this Saturday, April 18, gathering at the Forbes Hall at 1:00PM. Rain or shine, join friends and neighbours to experience our trails and roadways during the height of spring. From Lawrence Trail (the community trail) to North Cove and back, visiting the cemetery on the return is about 7 km. Do as much as you can. Then circle up for refreshments at Forbes Hall.

Hope to see your smiling face. Earth Walk. See you there.
