Found: Pair of Glasses

A pair of glasses was found at the notice board shelter by the ferry terminal.

They appear to be progressive prescription glasses with photo grey lenses.  We hung them on the plastic notice holder in the shelter.

Thanks, Erik Clifton

Leaving Thetis & Nature Kids

We are sad to announce that we are moving off this lovely little island so my husband can take a position on the mainland. I know I speak for all of my family when I say how much we will miss this community.

We are seeking a nice, affordable rental in Vancouver so if anyone has any connections or owns a place they would consider renting to our family, please let me know.

Secondly I would like to ask someone to step forward and take over Nature Kids B.C Thetis and Penelekut Island. I have done all the set up and planned events for the first few months. It is only a few hours per month of your time and it fits so well with the work of the Thetis Island Nature Conservancy.

Thank you so much for helping us to feel so welcome and so loved during our somewhat short stay here.

We have enjoyed it thoroughly.

Airi & family

Public Information Meeting ~ Rezoning Application Valdez Island

A public information meeting  will be held on September 19 regarding an application to rezone the area of a proposed License of Occupation on Valdes Island.

Hardy Island Granite Quarries Ltd has applied to rezone the area of a proposed license of application on the west shore of Valdes Island, adjacent to Lyackson IR3. The application is to change the zoning from W1 (Marine Conservation) to a zoning consistent with the proposed use as a barge landing.

The public information meeting will be on September 19, 2015 from 2:15 pm to 4 pm at the Frank Jameson Center in Ladysmith. The purpose of the meeting is to provide information and solicit feedback on the rezoning proposal. There will also be an opportunity to discuss the associated quarry operation after the information meeting.

An overview of activities is available.

Swap Meet ~ Thank you...

A big thank-you to all for making Saturday's Swap Meet and Cafe TICA a big success! Fun was had by all whether you were selling or buying. Cafe TICA out did themselves again with a yummy lunch to complete the day.

Gloria Taylor

A sincere thanks to all the bargain hunters  who came out to Forbes Hall on Saturday to support the vendors showing off their wares, and to sip coffee, taste sweet treats and enjoy lunch... all in the sunshine. Proceeds from the table rental and  food sales went to TICA to improve and maintain Forbes Hall.  Another successful fundraiser by Cafe TICA! The community support is much appreciated by all the organizers.

A big thanks to all the vendors who took the time to "clean " out their garages, workshops and back rooms to provide such a delightful array of items.

Fun was had by all!  Looking forward to next year's sale.

Syrian Refugee Crisis

I am interested in looking into what it would entail to sponsor someone or a family who is currently a refugee. If you have knowledge of the process or are just interested in looking into it as well, please let me know. It would be great to have a group of fellow Thetis folk with a range of skills, knowledge, and experiences. A diverse group tends to make for better decision making.

Please let me know. michelle@mlblack.ca or 250-246-1898.

Thanks,

Michelle Black
