Saturday, April 16, 2016 at 4:52PM St .Margaret’s Cemetery Board would like to take this opportunity to notify the community of a couple of issues that have come up over the last year. Beach access at the Capernwray gate has been blocked off as recommended by the engineers at the Green Shores Protection Workshop. We ask you to please respect this action. Do not use that beach access and ask your family and friends to not use it in order to allow the vegetation to grow.
New signage was put up in the cemetery at the request of TIVFD (Thetis Island Volunteer Fire Department) and TIRRA. During the drought last summer the high risk of fire became clear. Both organizations asked the Board to put up No Smoking signs. A No Camping sign will soon accompany those. (A camper van was found parked in the driveway of the cemetery last summer.) We are presently determining how best to put these signs up so that they will be in keeping with the aesthetics of the cemetery and serve their purpose as well.
We also give thanks to Sheila Kelsey for her many years of service. Sheila was instrumental in the development and management of the cemetery. She will be sadly missed. A farewell tea was held for Sheila and Den at the home of Lucy and Pat Mooney last September .
The Cemetery Board thanks its many volunteers for their continued support and hard work. Our annual clean up will be happening on Tuesday June 14.The full annual report for the cemetery can be found on the Thetis Island Community website.

Friday, April 15, 2016 at 8:01PM National Volunteer Week April 10-16
National Volunteer Week is a time to recognize, celebrate and thank Canada's 12.7 million volunteers contributing 2.1 billion hours countrywide. Although we officially celebrate volunteers annually, volunteer efforts are notable each and every day of the year.
Thanks to volunteers, our Thetis Island community continues to enjoy great events, activities, and in support of causes that continue to grow a strong and resilient place to live.
If you haven't already, please consider volunteering, as even the tiniest volunteer effort leaves a profound and lasting trace.
Many thanks to all volunteers on Thetis Island.

Friday, April 15, 2016 at 7:58PM We are hoping that this summer is not as dry and hazardous for forest fires as last summer, but we all must continue to be diligent with fire safety.
Last summer we had an extended fire ban, including no traditional wood-fuelled campfires. The Province did allow CSA or UL Approved propane campfire appliances and the TIVFD supports this alternative. These appliances do not throw sparks, have a limited flame height to meet regulations and properly set up and supervised, are safe. They are pricey, starting at just over $100. But if you have a burning desire to enjoy a summer evening campfire, you should consider purchasing one. Local stores such as Canadian Tire, Walmart etc carry them and they are also available on-line.

Thursday, April 14, 2016 at 11:52AM The ThINC board invites you to join us for an Earth Week Walk on Sunday April 17th at 2 pm. We'll meet at the garden behind the library at Forbes Hall and walk the same route as last year: Along the Lawrence Community Trail, north on Kenwood Road and back along North Cove Rd to the hall with an optional additional leg down to the cemetery. Refreshments will be shared in the garden following the walk. A shuttle will be available on Kenwood Rd for those who don't want to do the entire route.
Come and celebrate nature on Thetis Island with the Thetis Island Nature Conservancy. For more information call Ann at 250-246-8176.

Thursday, April 14, 2016 at 11:51AM Hello,
my name is Marvin and I'm currently helping Elisabeth and Noah on Jollity Farm. I'm from Germany and traveling around Canada and Alaska for a year.
Next week I'm going to fly to Alaska. In order to get to the Vancouver Airport by the 23rd of April I'll need to get to Victoria first and from there on to the airport by bus.
It would be really helpful if i could catch a ride with someone who is going to drive to Victoria around the 20th of April. The lucky driver will be rewarded with a hot coffee or a drink of his choice and great conversation!
Thanks a lot! :-)
