Celebration of life for Eleanor Culver

Dear Thetis Island residents,

Eleanor Wallace Culver, who lived on Thetis with her husband Dennis for twenty years from about 1990 to 2009, passed away in the Nanaimo Hospital on March 28, 2017.

You are invited to attend a Celebration of Life for Eleanor on Saturday, April 8 at 10:30 am at the Coast Bastion Hotel in Nanaimo.

John passed away at home on February 23rd.

A wake and celebration of life will be held for him at the Thetis Island marina pub on Saturday, April 8th at 11am. 

Organic Topsoil orders being taken ~ Fundraiser

Organic topsoil orders being taken until April 18th

Our daughter Kaz has joined the Nanaimo Track and Field Club and we are helping with their annual annual topsoil sale this spring, which is a fundraiser for the club (towards travel, equipment and facility maintenance). It is a great deal for premium organic topsoil, which is provided by Cinnabar Valley Farms. A 40 pound bag costs only $5 and we will bring it to Thetis at no extra cost around April 30th. Fire Permit Season starts April 1st

Just a reminder that all outdoor fires, including campfires and incinerators, must have a Fire Permit from April 1 to Oct. 31.  Permits are available on-line at www.thetisislandfire.ca and follow the link on the left side to fill out a Fire Permit request.  Please remember that we are not monitoring the computer 24/7, so plan ahead and request your permit at least two days before you need it.  Also, permits may be available in person at the garbage/recycling site on Wednesdays and Saturdays if either James Alton or Andy Lamb are volunteering at the sorting table on those days when the recycling centre is open.  As ever, garbage, plastic, tarps, treated lumber may NOT be burned at any time.

Reminder: BC Hydro Power Outage ~ Maintenance

Where: All customers on Penelakut Island and Thetis Island

When: Saturday, April 8, 2016

Time: 10:00 am to 2:00 pm

Notice of an upcoming power outage impacting all of Thetis and Penelakut Island (as well as a portion of Ladysmith). The outage is scheduled Saturday April 8 from 10am to 2pm.

We need to switch off power in your area for about 4 hours while we conduct system maintenance. To keep our crews and the public safe, power must be switched off while we complete this important work.

To protect your equipment from damage during the outage, please turn off all lights, electrical heaters, major appliances and unplug all electronics. We’ll restore power as soon as we can.
